Book Car Hire online

Want to hire a car on Christmas Island?

Australian road rules apply on Christmas Island, including driving on the left hand side of the road.  A valid drivers licence is required, and visitors should be prepared for off-road driving conditions outside of the main town areas. For peace of mind Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) are available to hire (with no fee) from the Christmas Island Police Station. PLBs are designed to be carried by bushwalkers and solo adventures and can be activated in the event of an emergency when immediate search and rescue assistance is required. If you are exploring Christmas Island in the National Park, or in areas where there is no mobile phone reception consider carrying a PLB to alert authorities in the event of a serious incident or emergency. Phone the Police Sation on +61 (8) 9164 8444 to book or pick one up on arrival.

‘On the Road’ booklets, published by the State Government of Western Australia, are available in seven languages:

  • Italian, German, Mandarin, Malay, Korean, French and English

Topics include driving on the left,  changing road conditions, and the danger posed by wildlife on the roads. The booklets are also available in a digital format and can be downloaded from the Road Safety Commission at https://www.rsc.wa.gov.au/resources#ontheroad
