Australian road rules, including left-hand side driving, apply on Christmas Island. For added safety, Personal Locator Beacons (PLBs) are available for hire at no cost from the Christmas Island Police Station.
Vehicles are limited, so we highly recommend booking your car in advance. Most roads on Christmas Island are unsealed, so 4WDs offer the best flexibility for exploring the island.
