Christmas Island Car Hire

The best way to see Christmas Island on a self drive itinerary is with a four wheel drive vehicle. Few roads on the Island are sealed, and even though the terrain is not extremely rugged, a small four wheel drive provides access to all the popular island sights.

Many people travel to Christmas Island for a specific purpose, such as diving or birdwatching. However, the Island is small so it is easy to fit in plenty of additional land sites even if your days are filled with a favourite activity. Most places are only a half hour travelling distance by car, and can be added to either end of a day.

The following are suggested self-drive itineraries:

3 Days
Morning : walk from Smith Point to the Roundabout
Afternoon : drive to the Grotto, and Mar Chor Nui Nui Temple
Morning : drive to Territory Day Park
Afternoon : continue to Hugh's Dale and Martin Point
Full Day : drive to Greta and Dolly Beaches returning via Margaret Knoll

4 Days, add:
Morning : walk from the Roundabout to Rocky Point
Afternoon : drive to Lily Beach and walk along the Boardwalk to Ethel Beach

7 days, add:
Full day: South Point railway, the temples and Blowholes, return via the Pink House
Full day : Winifred Beach returning via LB4 lookout
Morning : visit Upper Daniel Roux Cave
Afternoon : swimming/snorkelling in Flying Fish Cove and birdwatching from Smith Point
Add a game of golf, go fishing, kayaking, or learn to scuba dive !!
