The Sanctuary
Member of the Christmas Island Tourism Association
Deluxe Rating
The Sanctuary represents the ultimate in style and comfort for a Christmas Island experience. This is a stunning tropical home set among lush gardens in the Settlement heritage precinct with its own private lap pool. A timber pathway from the entrance leads through gardens to an expansive deck, which forms the living and entertaining area. A mango tree has been allowed to grow through the deck and roof, next to the barbeque area. The deck overlooks the 13-metre pool and garden. Seclusion and privacy are paramount. There are sun lounges to lay by the pool or to take in the views of the tropical birds soaring overhead among the trees and thermals rising up from the National Park escarpment. Balinese and French style influences the design, and there are interesting features in the use of timbers recycled from the Island and the creation of traditional furniture by local craftsmen.
The main bedroom has a 4-poster queen size bed with sheer drapes, walk in robe and en-suite bathroom. The second bedroom has a queen size bed, wardrobe and access to main bathroom. There is a reading room with stereo, satellite digital TV, DVD and wireless internet connection.
There is a spacious fully equipped kitchen including dishwasher, oven, microwave, electric fry pan and full size refrigerator. The laundry includes a washing machine, clothesline, dryer and ironing facilities. Rooms are air-conditioned and fan-cooled. Shops, cafes taverns and the Cove are nearby. Suitable for one or two couples, or that special honeymoon.
